What is the difference between ap1 and ap2 s2000
There are slight differences in the rear bumper. The AP1 has a black section in the middle that the AP2 does not. The biggest change from AP1 to AP2 is the increase in size from 16 inches to 17 inches.
The AP1 came with the F20C 2. Both versions are naturally aspirated and the S never came with a forced induction powertrain. It is rated at HP lb-ft of torque. It produces the same HP but has an extra 6lb-ft of torqu e, to a total of lb-ft. To be honest, both engines feel pretty sluggish in the lower RPMs.
The and AP2 do not have this. The consensus is the AP1 has a more exciting engine that embodies the S spirit. Honda produced an amazing set of engines that provide a unique driving experience. Every S was sold with a 6-speed manual transmission, an automatic option was never offered. Honda did make some slight tweaks to the transmission throughout the years. The AP2 was released with carbon fiber synchros to replace the solid brass ones of the AP1.
This change reduced the overall weight of the transmission and owners report a smoother shifting experience. A known fault of the AP1 is a weak differential. There are countless reports you can find online of owners blowing up these diffs launching and on track. The AP2 differential has the same ratio as the AP1. However, a clutch delay valve CDV was introduced on AP2 models to prevent shock to the drivetrain and saves wear on components. This is the main factor why owners report the AP2 differential being much stronger.
It just requires a bit of finessing and some extra parts. From Honda used a seat with a hole filled with mesh in the headrest. From Honda went to a solid headrest. The AP1 Honda S came with a redline of rpm which was great for revving and accelerating the car, while the AP2 decreased that redline to rpm.
The torque increased from nm in the AP1 to nm in the AP2. The larger travel of the pistons however ensured that the new model will also be equally as fast, if not more. The gear ratios were also slightly tweaked. To manage better acceleration, Honda made the first five gears much smaller and made the last gear much larger. This made acceleration quick as the first five gears were used to increase the speed quickly while the last gear could focus on top speed.
The original Honda S AP1 came with 16 inch wheels. The rims themselves were beautiful riding on the Bridgestone Potenza S tires. The weight distribution, however, remained the same at front and rear. It was a track-oriented version that came with a few cosmetic changes as well as new tires Bridgestone Potenza RE that were 10mm wider than the normal AP2. Lastly, there were a few cosmetic changes made for eye candy on the AP2 version in comparison with AP1.
One of the best upgrades made was the gorgeous new taillights that were now LED and complemented the car perfectly. New bumpers, both front, and rear were also added in the new version giving the car a much sportier look and better aerodynamics.
The slightly tweaked headlight and the new exhaust pipes also added to the shortlist of design changes made in the new model. The Honda S, and the legend lives forever. In this article, we discussed and talked about the differences between the two models of the Honda S, AP1, and AP2. As you can see, the AP1 and AP2 are awesome regardless, and it remains to this day as one of the best mid engine roadsters available!

Going that high in the rev limit is unheard of with regards to stock cars. The only problem is that the exhaust valve springs have retainers which are known to crack. The solution is to convert the valve retainers to AP2 version valve retainers.
For me, this was not an option. I needed a turn key car. Thus, the AP2 v2 won out for me. Choosing the right S, like anything in life, requires a ton of research.
I personally chose to look for a platform that fit my current lifestyle.
