Decided to do the marathon in one of my favorite cities, but due to injuries etc had to switch to the half. No headaches to change, super organized. Lots of … MORE. Lots of supporters and music on the route. Flat course with lots of spectators and supporters.
I ran this race to see if it really was flat. The only downside was the finish and post-race area. Extremely crowded and somewhat confusing. I was there to run fast and as I headed back into the city I needed a big big finish to run my first sub 3.
I ran the last mile in and snuck under three hours by thirteen seconds. Lucky 13 seconds! Congrats on the big sub-3 Stephen, and especially to your quads for staying strong despite absorbing all that concrete. I ran Houston as well this year, though from a different perspective since I started at the very back to fundraise for the Food Bank based on the number of runners passed.

Overall fantastic experience. You receive participation t-shirt and medal. I really enjoyed the Houston Marathon, loved the flat course with plentiful water stations and tons of fans along the course.

Fans line the majority of the course with only a few areas are lacking fan support. I started running in mid and signed up for this to be my first half. After overtraining I decided the half would be so easy that I would make it a challenge and do the full.
